With the growing season underway, you may be looking at doing a spot of gardening and planting.
If you live near to one of our wildfire risk areas, such as a heath or forest, you may be interested to know that some plants are more flammable than others.
Volunteers from the Firewise UK Beacon Road community in Dorset worked with Exeter University’s WildFIRE research lab to test the flammability of a range of garden plants. From this research the lab was able to recommend some plants that are safer to plant in gardens in high-risk fire areas. A simple traffic light system was developed and a helpful leaflet was created.
