Disposable BBQ sales dropped amid heatwave

Aug 12, 2022

A number of high street supermarkets have temporarily stopped selling disposable barbecues because of the heatwave. Among them are Morrisons, Waitrose, Aldi, Southern Co-op, M&S, Sainsbury’s and Tesco, which have all dropped the product during the current spell of dry weather.

Fire brigades have warned of the risk of blazes in “tinderbox conditions” and Dorset has already seen an exceptional number of wildfires this summer.

The Met Office’s fire severity index, which assesses how severe a blaze could become, is currently “very high” for most of England and Wales, making our countryside very vulnerable.

Our colleagues at Litter Free Dorset have been redoubling efforts calling on all retailers to do the right thing and completely remove disposable BBQs from sale, to protect Dorset’s wildlife and open spaces during this hot summer due to the greatly increased risk of fire.
