BARI held their first beginners guided bird watch on Saturday 22nd Jan at Whitley Lakes, which was a great success.
Run by wardens Lauren and Sophie, they were able to showcase some of the amazing overwintering birds we are lucky to have on our doorstep.
At the start of the walk the group saw plenty of turnstones and oystercatchers, which were then joined by many bar-tailed godwits as the tide receded. It was a great afternoon watching these waders and learning more about their ecology, and why Poole Harbour is such an important site for them and many other species.
